“I have to get a carpet shipped overseas.”
That sentence can sound quite daunting, but the experience doesn’t have to be.
We have shipped carpet and flooring overseas many a time and would be more than happy to help you revamp your room/property.
The perfect example of this was a customer we helped carpet her stairs and landing, in Iceland (!). Don’t worry, we’ve got links to the review and finished product for you to look at, at the end!
For anyone thinking they may need or want to ship carpet abroad, I have broken down the Iceland sale I handled, step by step, so that you know what to expect and what questions we may ask.
Firstly, it starts off with the general enquiry. This is you letting us know what product you would like, how much you require, and where you would like this shipped to.
For our Icelandic customer, the carpet she saw and loved was the Cormar Malabar Two-Fold in colour Balm, which was thankfully in stock and ready to go.
Secondly, we will ask you to clarify whether this would be processed via your business or via you as a private individual, and if we could have this delivered to a commercial address for you – bonus points if you included this in your initial enquiry.
When shipping goods overseas, everything has to be correct for customs and VAT purposes. This is why shipping B2B is much simpler as all the information is already there and registered – e.g. commercial address, VAT and EORI numbers.
Another thing to keep in mind is many freight companies are unable to access residential areas, this is why we may ask if there is a commercial address that this can go to.
For any private individuals reading this, don’t fret, we may be able to ship to you too. This is generally more complicated, but we would take this on a case-by-case basis and would look into it for you.
In this case, our Icelandic customer did have a VAT and EORI number, so it was plain sailing (excuse the pun).
Once we have established those particulars, the biggest part of your job is done! We will ask you to sit back and relax, while we gather some shipping quotes for you.
We put a lot of effort into getting you the most competitive price and will always take your feedback on board if the quote isn’t quite right for you. This is exactly what we did for our Icelandic customer.
In this case, we even went out on a limb and asked our customer for any shipping/freight recommendations she may have heard of in Iceland, and incidentally it was extremely successful.
We are always looking to learn more and tailor the experience to you.
We ended up receiving very competitive quotes and ultimately, this was successful in securing us the sale.
It’s of course not just down to the logistics, but also about your connection to the people helping you with this (this is us).
We clicked very well with the customer, sharing experiences, anecdotes (and even agreed to reach out if we ever found ourselves in Iceland and vice versa), and were able to put her mind entirely at ease and so she trusted us to get this carpet to her.
We will always work with you instead of just for you.
In summary, there is a lot that goes into each international shipment but we absolutely enjoy every second and make sure our customer (you) stays informed.
In the end, this was delivered without a hitch and our customer left us a very kind review and even shared images with us of the final product.
Spoiler – it looks beautiful!
We do not contribute to the feeling of FOMO over here so please feel free to read that review (click the link here to read) and take a look at the final result over on our Instagram (click here to go straight to our page).
A special thank you to our lovely and valued Icelandic customer for her trust and review – this has helped us secure further international shipments over time – and to Cormar Carpets for their cooperation in supplying us with this beautiful carpet.
For any of you reading this that may want to buy your flooring/carpet from us in the UK and have us ship it to you, I hope this has given you some insight into the process put your mind at ease.
