When deciding on the best carpet for your home, there are a few things you may need to consider. But don't worry, all the information you will need can be found in this article.
Firstly, you’ll need to consider foot traffic. How much foot traffic will this carpet endure? In living rooms, stairways, landings, etc, you will need a heavy domestic carpet, as these are built for durability and are unwaveringly reliable.
However, if you’re looking to revamp your bedroom, the carpet of your choosing does not have to be heavy domestic - this time it’s all about comfort. Some examples of family friendly - heavy domestic carpets, such as best carpets for stairs:
Kersaint Cobb Coir Opulence Herringbone

For your bedroom, you may want to prioritise comfort and softness - it is your sanctuary afterall. Some beautiful carpets that will provide you with a soft, calming,underfoot feel, such as best carpets for bedrooms;

Manx Tomkinson Plains

Manx Tomkinson Country Twist Gold

The second aspect you would like to consider is how this may change if you have a pet. Traditionally, twist/saxony carpets would be the way to go as they are more practical and that bit safer. With a loop carpet, sometimes your pet may be vulnerable to pulling on the loops and unravelling the thread - which you can imagine can be inconvenient. This is not always the case, but definitely something to consider. TIP: maybe avoid loop pile carpets like Capella or Cadiz (though they are beautifully made loops) if you have pets with long/sharp claws.

Kingsmead Amazing

The next thing to consider is what aesthetic you would like to go for. We of course have some beautiful man-made carpets on the market, but some of you may be after a more eco-friendly, organic, natural feel in your home/room of your choosing. Something about carpets that often goes unrecognised or doesn’t always get considered is the sort of backing your desired carpet has - this is something important to consider as the method of installation can differ depending on this.
Firstly we have actionback - this is the most common form of backing and pairs beautifully with our underlays. Most notably the most luxury carpet underlay;
Dreamwalk 11mm Underlay
Cloud 9 Cumulus 11mm
Treadmore 9mm (high density)
Not to worry though, felt backing is also a very strong option. The only time installation of a carpet would be different would be if it is latex or gel backing - this would require a glue to stick it down/a particular underlay. This type of installation is not often found in households and can usually be found in places where spillages are prone, e.g. residential homes. Though it's not as common, you can of course still install this in your home - in fact we have a beautiful carpet that is often installed in homes; Coir Opulence Herringbone—glue-down installation only. In more simple terms, this carpet has a latex backing and the underlay for this sort acts like a giant double-sided tape (it’s sticky on both sides).
Jumping back to aesthetics briefly, a seemingly obvious thing to consider would be the colour of the carpet you would like, but this decision can get difficult when companies/ranges like (the below) exist;
Manx Tomkinson Berber Superior – 12 colour options
Kingsmead Amazing – 19 colour options
Kingsmead Artwork 45 – Vibrant tones available
Colours can be tricky, but those of you that want patterned carpet, the market can seem both over saturated and sparse at the same time. To help you a little bit i have given you two to look at first and cut out a lot of the hassle of locating one to begin with (one striped, one tartan):
Kingsmead Artistry – Includes striped designs for something bold.
Last but not least, you should consider your budget, especially when taking into consideration the ancillary products to complete your beautiful new floor - such as underlays, door plates and grippers too. Thankfully our prices at Carpets And More will save you a lot of money from the store prices.
Just to recap: Consider the traffic level of the room/carpet in question, comfort, pets, natural or man-made, backing, colour/style, and budget.
